Long abandoned in this 1975 photo is the W&LE's Kenwood depot at MP 189, three miles west of Adena. At this location was a CTC controlled siding and a couple yard tracks for the nearby mines that have come and gone such as the Y&O Nelms Mine and Hanna Coal's Kenvale Mine. ReplyDeleteThanks for this great photo which sings of small town coal based operations, right down to the angled siding. You may have triggered a scratch building project!
Roger
You're welcome Roger! I've always thought this was a neat looking station too. However I wish I knew exactly what the safety sign said.
DeleteThe first word of each line makes the statement "Stop, Look, Listen".
DeleteFirst line - Stop Carelessness.
Second line - Look to Safety.
Third line - Listen to reason.
Or something to that effect
Tim
That sounds about right Tim, the last line is of course the hardest to make out.
DeleteGreat picture. Would you mind if I shared it on Facebook?
ReplyDeleteI've seen this photo in a couple places but the only one I have record of is the web site listed in the photo description. Since it's not really my photo I can't give that kind of permission. I also can't stop anybody from saving any images and doing what they want either.
DeleteThere is a sad story that in the early 1930's a young boy ran on the tracks directly to the right front of the Kenwood station. The boy was chasing his runaway dog. The station master called for him to stop but the boy ran on the track and was struck and killed by a braking train.
